Itinerary

We will pick you up at your hotel in REIMS then drive to Verdun. We will head north of the town to the French frontline: from there our guide will explain you how the battle of Verdun started in February 1916.

You will be able to walk in the Bois des Caures (Caures wood) where was the command post of the Colonel Driant. He was one of the heroes of Verdun, and his grave lies not far from the spot where he was killed.

The area of Verdun is known for its numerous forts defending the town. The "ouvrage de Froideterre" was one of them. This fortress, now abandoned in the forest, has resisted to multiple assaults in 1916. Not visited by many visitors, you will have the privilege to explore it with our guide.

Certainly the most sacred place in France, the Douaumont ossuary contains the remains of 130.000 unknown French and German combatants who fell in the battle of Verdun. A place that you will never forget...

The Verdun museum has been completely redone in 2016, it presents a large collection of items, maps, and interactive materials. A very well done presentation that we won't miss to visit. All the museum fees are included on our tours.

Fleury-devant-Douaumont was one of the entirely destroyed village during the Verdun battle. None of the buildings has been rebuilt, but the village officially still exists... without any inhabitants.

The "Trench of the bayonets" tells the story of French soldiers buried alive in a trench and only their bayonets were standing above the ground: myth or reality ? You will know the truth by exploring it !

The Douaumont fort fell into German hands 4 days after the start of the battle. It took the French troops nearly 8 month and very heavy losses to retake the position. The fort is now open to the visit, a unique way to discover the fortress from inside...
